Important Installation Criteria: Doorframe must have wood sides with at least 3" wide flat area to which to mount. Your gate's hinge pins will reside on the edge of the doorframe (just like a regular door). Ensure no decorative molding affects your ability to hang the gate.
1. Measure width of opening at the top, middle, and bottom of where you intend to place the gate.
2. FOR A ONE DOOR GATE: Order a gate one inch less wide than the MINIMUM doorframe opening found in step 1.

FOR A TWO DOOR GATE: Order a gate 1/8" to 1/4" inch less wide than the MINIMUM doorframe opening found in step 1. Your two door gate will have its doors' width set so that a one inch air gap is allocated between the two doors.

For example, a door opening of 47 1/4" would need a two door gate of 47" in width. (Each door would be 23", and there would be a 1" gap between the two doors, plus an additional 1/4" of margin for the hinges for a total of 1 1/4" margin. You would order a two door gate width of 47" in this example, and we would ship you two doors each 23" in width).

3. Order a gate height to meet your safety requirements or to be compatible with any surrounding chair rail. Gate height is measured from the bottom of the gate's foot rail to top of the handrail, in inches.
4. Please use our design assistance form instead if you have any baseboard in your doorway. You may require side planks to help your gate clear the baseboard.
Gates are intended to have their bottom foot rail located at 2 1/2 inches above the floor. You will be provided with wooden blocks of this height, to assist you in mounting your gate, and our default caster works with the 2 1/2" bottom mounting position. Use of the caster is optional, and you may mount your gate at any distance above the floor that you would like. We also have smaller casters for lower mount positions.
